Taylor Swift nunca habla de política. Eso es lago que ha pasado factura en cierto modo a su carrera, pues siempre se le ha asociado con la “niña blanca, pija y pudiente” que canta para otras “niñas blancas, pijas y pudientes” de los Estados Unidos.

Ahora, por primera vez desde que escuchamos su voz en las radios de todo el mundo, la cantante ha decidido posicionarse, en sus propias palabras, por la urgencia del momento que vivimos. “En el pasado he sido reacia ha compartir mis opiniones políticas, pero dados los eventos que han ocurrido en mi vida y en el mundo a lo largo de los últimos dos años, siento que algo ha cambiado”, ha expresado en Instagram, en un post que algunos consideran demasiado críptico o insuficiente, pero en el que expresa su intención de votar a los candidatos demócratas al senado por Tennessee.

I’m writing this post about the upcoming midterm elections on November 6th, in which I’ll be voting in the state of Tennessee. In the past I’ve been reluctant to publicly voice my political opinions, but due to several events in my life and in the world in the past two years, I feel very differently about that now. I always have and always will cast my vote based on which candidate will protect and fight for the human rights I believe we all deserve in this country. I believe in the fight for LGBTQ rights, and that any form of discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender is WRONG. I believe that the systemic racism we still see in this country towards people of color is terrifying, sickening and prevalent. I cannot vote for someone who will not be willing to fight for dignity for ALL Americans, no matter their skin color, gender or who they love. Running for Senate in the state of Tennessee is a woman named Marsha Blackburn. As much as I have in the past and would like to continue voting for women in office, I cannot support Marsha Blackburn. Her voting record in Congress appalls and terrifies me. She voted against equal pay for women. She voted against the Reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, which attempts to protect women from domestic violence, stalking, and date rape. She believes businesses have a right to refuse service to gay couples. She also believes they should not have the right to marry. These are not MY Tennessee values. I will be voting for Phil Bredesen for Senate and Jim Cooper for House of Representatives. Please, please educate yourself on the candidates running in your state and vote based on who most closely represents your values. For a lot of us, we may never find a candidate or party with whom we agree 100% on every issue, but we have to vote anyway. So many intelligent, thoughtful, self-possessed people have turned 18 in the past two years and now have the right and privilege to make their vote count. But first you need to register, which is quick and easy to do. October 9th is the LAST DAY to register to vote in the state of TN. Go to vote.org and you can find all the info. Happy Voting! 🗳😃🌈

Después, Swift ha añadido: “Siempre he votado y votaré basándome en qué candidato protegerá y luchará por los derechos humanos que creo que merecemos en este país. Creo en la lucha por los derechos LGBT+ y que cualquier forma de discriminación basada en la orientación sexual o el género está EQUIVOCADA. Creo que el racismo sistemático que todavía vemos en este país hacia la gente racializada es terrorífico y nauseabundo. El mensaje de Taylor Swift en su Instagram llega pocos días después de que Lana del Rey llamara la atención a Kanye West por sus coqueteos con Trump, y de que Lady Gaga diera un tremendo discurso sobre acoso sexual en mitad del caso Brett Kavanaugh. Que el pop de masas tiene que comprometerse con el tiempo presente es algo que parecen saber, cada vez más, los que lo protagonizan.

“Que Trump se convirtiera en nuestro presidente fue una tragedia para el país”, le dijo Lana del Rey a Kanye West, “pero que tú le apoyes es una tragedia para la cultura”. Lana fue así de tajante con Kanye cuando éste compartió en Instagram un selfie en el que vestía una gorra con el lema MAGA. En el post, West defendía que Trump “dará trabajo a todos aquellos que fuimos liberados con la abolición de la 13ª enmienda”. La foto fue publicada horas después de que el rapero actuase en ‘Saturday Night Live’, un espacio desde el que también mostró sus simpatías por el actual presidente de Estado Unidos. La cantante de ‘Summertime Sadness’, que actuó en la boda de Kim y Kanye en 2014, no tuvo reparos en responder a las falacias de Ye: “Si piensas que está bien apoyar a alguien que, por el simple hecho de ser famoso, se cree con el derecho de agarrar a una mujer por el coño, necesitas que te reeduquen tanto como lo necesita él”.
